Proper Installation for Structurally Sound Roofing in Sacramento Homes

The Yancey Family, Serving Sacramento Since 1888

Sacramento, California is known for its Mediterranean climate. For this reason, roof failure due to heavy snow load is not a problem here. However, there are other factors that can cause a roof to collapse, such as fire. A report by Jamie Nicholson for Pasadena Now talks about a fire that took place in the Craftsman home in early October:

An electrical fire swept through the attic of a single-story Craftsman home in the 700 block of North Michigan Ave. shortly after 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, leading to a roof collapse and $700,000 in damages.

Responding firefighters encofirefighter fighting fireuntered heavy fire throughout the entire attic of the home upon arrival.

Shortly thereafter, the structure’s roof partially collapsed, Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian said.

No firefighters were injured.

The owners were not at home at the time of the fire.

The Fire Dept. response, which included four engines and two trucks, necessitated the closure of both Michigan Ave. and Orange Grove Blvd. near Michigan Ave. for several hours.

If threats like snow fall, hailstorms, and fire are ruled out, it doesn’t mean that a roof is completely impenetrable to roof failure. At times, a roof collapses due to age and improper maintenance. Thus, it is wise to have old roofs inspected periodically by trusted Sacramento roofing specialists to spot and fix problems before they get worse.

However, this doesn’t mean that newly installed roofs are safe from the problem–in fact, even a young roof can fail if it was properly or inadequately installed. According to Buildings.com, improper installation and low-quality workmanship are two of the leading roof problems, along with roof leaks and moisture and improper maintenance.

For this reason, it’s smart for homeowners who need new roofing in Sacramento to depend on roofers that have been certified by leading roofing manufacturers like GAF. These roofers are the ones who have been trained on the proper techniques and methods of installing GAF roofing materials. If they hire roofers who have not earned a manufacturer’s certification, their new roof is not likely to be installed according to manufacturer’s standards.

A new roof is a big investment, and at times, homeowners shell out big bucks for them, only to see their roofs fail after a short period. This is something homeowners can avoid if they hire GAF Master Elite-certified roofers like the ones from Yancey Home Improvements. These roofers have been sufficiently trained to install GAF products according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
