Bathroom Remodeling

Custom Showers, Tubs, Vanities, Flooring, and Lighting, Designed and Installed by the Yancey Family Since 1888

A bathroom is one of the smallest rooms in the house and one of the most complicated to get right. Plumbing, electrical, tile, cabinetry, lighting, and moisture all have to come together in a few square feet, and when one trade gets it wrong, you live with it every single morning. That's why the contractor you choose matters more here than almost anywhere else in the home.

Yancey Home Improvements has handled bathroom remodeling for Sacramento families since 1888. We're a third-generation, family-owned, design-build company, which means the people who plan your bathroom and the people who build it work under the same name; the one that's been on the door for more than 135 years. Whether you want to completely reimagine the room or simply update a few tired components, we'll take it from the first sketch to the final tile.

Why Sacramento Homeowners Choose Yancey for Bathroom Remodeling

We do everything we can to make remodeling your bathroom feel manageable instead of overwhelming. It starts with a free in-home consultation, no obligation attached, and a clear, on-time project proposal so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins. From there, you're working with local craftsmen who are licensed for each trade and have done this in Sacramento homes for generations.

That experience matters most in the moments you don't see coming, the older home with a surprise behind the wall, the layout that needs rethinking, the finish that won't hold up to daily use. We've run into nearly all of it, and we'd rather tell you up front than leave it for you to discover later.

Financing

At Yancey Home Improvements, we offer flexible financing programs for your home improvement projects, making it easier to achieve your renovation and repair goals.

Bathroom Remodeling

The Pieces of a Great Bathroom Remodel

A full bathroom remodel is really a series of decisions, and we'll walk you through each one.

Showers, Tubs, and Vanities

The first big choice is usually deciding between a shower, a bathtub, or both. If you plan to stay in the home a while and can do without a soak, a full shower may be the better use of space. If you expect to sell before long, a shower-tub combination tends to appeal to more buyers, though it needs more room to work. For a full shower, you can choose from glass styles like frosted, tinted, and hammered, or go all the way to a full-body shower with multiple heads.

If you want a tub, we'll help you weigh the options: soaking tubs for unwinding at the end of the day, walk-in tubs for easier access, or a general-purpose tub better suited to bathing young children. Tubs can be freestanding, under-mount, platform, corner, or alcove, and the material shapes both the feel and the longevity. Acrylic, cultured marble, and enameled cast iron all deliver a more luxurious bath, while fiberglass is the economical, dependable choice.

The vanity is the centerpiece, and it's where personality enters the room. We offer stock, semi-custom, and custom options, with countertops in solid surface, glass, and natural stone, and finishes in metal, wood, and glass. Stock keeps things simple and affordable; semi-custom and custom open the possibilities considerably.

If accessibility is your main concern, walk-in showers and tub-to-shower conversions for aging in place are also our expertise.

Flooring and Lighting

Once the fixtures are settled, the floor pulls the room together. Bathroom flooring has to stand up to moisture, which is why we steer homeowners away from wood and toward materials built for the job. Laminate is affordable, durable, and available in a wide range of looks. Linoleum and vinyl are popular too, and easier underfoot. And tile, in stone, porcelain, ceramic, or marble, remains a favorite for good reason.

Lighting is the detail people underestimate. If you picture long soaks in a whirlpool tub, you'll want dimmable mood lighting. If the room is where you get ready in the morning, you'll want brighter, more direct light at the vanity. Our team includes skilled electricians who design lighting based on how you actually use the space.

Plumbing

If your new bathroom keeps roughly the same layout, major plumbing work usually isn't necessary. If you're moving fixtures or upgrading to today's best components, new lines may be in order. We'll walk you through the trade-offs between PEX, a flexible plastic that can be routed with fewer connections, and copper, which is durable and eco-friendly but more prone to corrosion over time.

Our Sacramento Bathroom Remodel Process

We aim to make the process as clear as the proposal:

  1. We Meet at Your Home: One of our designers sits down with you in the space to talk through goals, options, and budget.

  2. We Design It: For most projects, our designers prepare a design that takes the guesswork out of the final look before anything is built.

  3. We Choose the Details Together: We select every product and finish with you, so the result is the bathroom you pictured, not our best guess.

  4. We Build It In-House: Our own installers complete the work, and you're assigned an in-office production manager and an on-site project manager who keep you in the loop at every step. We keep the job site clean and contained from start to finish.

The Credentials Behind the Work

Choosing a remodeler comes down to a few honest questions: Do they do quality work, will they stand behind it, and do they carry the credentials that protect you? Here’s what makes us stand out:

  • We carry an EPA Lead-Safe Certification, which is essential for remodeling in older Sacramento homes, where lead paint is a real concern.

  • We're proud members of the National Kitchen and Bath Association and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

  • We maintain an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau

Every project carries the Yancey Family Guarantee, and our customers know they can still reach us long after the job is done. You can hear what it's like to work with us on our reviews page.

Common Questions About Bathroom Remodeling in Sacramento

Not always. If the new layout keeps fixtures roughly where they are, major plumbing work usually isn't needed. If you're relocating fixtures or upgrading components, new lines may be in order, and we'll walk you through the options, including PEX and copper, so you understand the trade-offs.

It depends on the scope. Cosmetic updates often don't require a permit, but projects involving structural changes, plumbing, or electrical work usually do. The City of Sacramento's building department is the place to confirm what applies, and we're glad to talk through scope and permitting during your estimate.

Yes. We hold California Contractor License #714569, carry liability and Workers' Comp coverage, and maintain active NKBA and NARI memberships, along with EPA Lead-Safe Certification for work in older homes. Those credentials exist to protect you and to confirm the work meets California standards.

We do. Walk-in showers, tub-to-shower conversions, and other wet-area modifications for safer, easier access are a focus for us.

I need a total bathroom remodel, and everyone at Yancey has been a delight to work with. All my questions have been answered, the choices of materials were abundant, and Scott guided us expertly through the process one step at a time. I would highly recommend them!

Laura Powell

Yancey was awesome to work with. My estimator was Brian Speaks, and he made the entire experience simple and enjoyable for us. There was no high pressure sales, and Brian went out of his way to make sure we got exactly what we wanted and needed. His pricing was fair, and he helped us get financing right on the spot. If I would provide more than 5 stars, I would.

Ryan Calderwood

Tommy was very helpful in explaining the roofing process and itemizing the pricing. He was upfront and honest about policy and interpreting the contract for my mother and I. We are a house full of women and we are always worried about being taken advantage of price-wise but we were not treated that way. Thank you for the excellent service and stunning new roof!

Caroline H

I chose Yancey for my reroof because of their business longevity. They've run into every situation imaginable and Brian addressed these concerns in the contract. Being told in advance is an explanation, being told after the fact is an excuse. They gave no excuses. The team working was always on time and did exceptional quality work with dry rot repair. The roof looks great and I expect it to work well for years to come.
